Photography Challenge Day!

Day Two: 24 April. Photography Challenge Day!

Today challenges you to be creative with your photography…Taking interesting photographs in this instance isn’t about flashy cameras or a great deal of technical know-how, it’s about setting up a story or scene in a photograph and capturing something imaginative. Your photograph(s) should feature something related to your craft, so that might be either a knitted or crocheted item, yarn, or one of your craft tools.

There are tarot decks inspired by just about every topic under the sun: Jane Austen, baseball, angels, medieval art, physics, and more. Despite this variety, no one has yet created a knitting or crochet tarot deck. So I now invite you to see a card from an imaginary deck.

(I won these lovely needles a few years ago as a door prize. Sadly, this is the first time I’ve used them, and this isn’t knitting.)

  1. Uh oh. There’s just too much potential in that concept of a yarnworks or needlework tarot. How am I supposed to get to sleep tonight? Balls of yarn can be the pentacles.

And what did you use for the backdrop? It’s very attractive.

    1. Doing my part to contribute to your insomnia… 🙂

I thought of yarn as pentacles as well. I get stuck after that point, though. Neither knitting nor crochet really has a major tool with a sharp edge or point to be the swords. Maybe if it was a general needlework tarot, then you could use needles or scissors for the swords. Having said that, I just flashed on an idea for the 8 of Swords: someone poised with scissors ready to cut a steek, paralyzed with fear.

The backdrop is a background pattern in Adobe Photoshop Elements 9. A reddish-orange fabric might’ve been more symbolic, but I like how this one sets the needles off so nicely.
